The Norfolk Riddle licensed restaurant and fish & chip shop

Close to the Farms Shop you’ll find our restaurant, also part of the Walsingham Farms Shop Partnership. Our chef, Hervé, is from a village in Alsace; his menus change almost daily as he responds to available produce. He's cooking every day with ingredients sourced as much as possible from the producers who supply us in the shop.

The restaurant is licensed so you can enjoy a glass of Norfolk ale or cider with your food or choose from our modestly priced wine list.

We also have a top notch traditional Fish & Chip Shop takeaway counter.Because we cook everything in the Chip Shop to order, you may experience a short wait at the counter, but you are welcome to phone through your order in advance so we can have it ready for your collection.

As at the Farms Shop, at the Riddle we showcase the wonderful food and drink produced here in Norfolk. Come and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and woodburner in our cosy dining room.

MENU & SOURCING

Our menu changes regularly adapting to what’s in season and available locally, direct from producers. There’s always a freshly made vegetarian dish, plus daily changing vegetables and plenty on the specials board such as mussels or crab from the coast when they’re in season. All our drinks are locally sourced, including pressed apple juices, Norfolk cider and locally brewed beer. All meat is from the Farms Shop and game is from the Walsingham Estate shoot, and all the pies, pâtés and puddings are made on the premises or in the Farms Shop kitchen.

FAMILIES AND PARTIES

Family groups are welcome. And the Riddle is a great place for a party – we can seat up to 40 people inside, with seating for up to 40 outside. We would be delighted to arrange a special menu, just call to discuss your requirements.

WHY THE NORFOLK RIDDLE?

You’ll notice some giant sieves hanging up in the restaurant. These are riddles, agricultural implements for the gruelling task of sorting and grading potatoes. We aim to ‘sort’ locally grown potatoes, an East Anglian staple crop, into tasty mash, crunchy chips and more. Your suggestions for potato dishes are most welcome!

THE FISH & CHIP SHOP

A traditional fish and chip takeaway where we turn Norfolk potatoes into the finest chips, and fry fish from sustainable sources. You’ll find all your classic favourites, but because we use the best beef dripping for our frying, and make all our pies, pasties and sausages in the Farms Shop, you’ll find everything tastes fresh and delicious.
